Make a “Thank You” Topper (Copy)

This week, I wanted to give you guys some inspiration for modifying files that you have purchased from others.

I hear it all the time. Like…all….the….time. Makers tell me that the struggle they have when buying files from others is that the file isn't quite what they were looking for, but since you can't figure out how to design what you want, you'll settle for the file you purchased.

Nope. Not an option here!! So let me explain a little… I made a file a little while back that is meant to be a blank floral sign. See it here. This is a great option to make a name sign, a coaster, even a baby announcement. But not a good option to be a cake topper? or a plant stake? Which is what I wanted to make!

So the tutorial this week, I'm going to show you just how I turned this file into a super cute thank you topper. We're using Adobe Illustrator 2021 and I'm walking you through it step by step!

Let's do this!

What you'll learn:

  • How to use the smooth tool

  • How to expand a path

  • How to unite a shape
